Today’s Partner Spotlight may seem like an unconventional one, the Baltimore Community ToolBank! Though their work is not directly schools or arts focused, they are doing incredible work to support Baltimore organizations and communities! The ToolBank is a nonprofit organization located in Pig Town that lends a variety of equipment to organizations to support their programs and events. I recently had the opportunity to talk with the ToolBank’s Program Manager, Rachel Thompson, about how the ToolBank can be a valuable resource for Baltimore schools.

On top of an extensive inventory of tools, the ToolBank stocks plenty of equipment for rent that might be of particular interest to schools, including:

  • Event supplies (tables, chairs, microphones, projector screens, coolers, etc)
  • Community clean up supplies (gloves, trash grabbers, rakes, shovels, etc)
  • Fun supplies! (giant jenga, cornhole, even a whole playground!)

You can explore their complete inventory list, including (incredibly reasonable!) weekly rental costs, online here, or, reach out to Rachel for a tour–you might even catch a glimpse of Flash, their resident warehouse cat! (and star of their ToolBank calendar!)

Schools can apply for a free membership to the ToolBank using this link. After applying, schools can expect to hear from Rachel to follow up about the types of events you are looking to host. Once a school’s membership is approved, schools are able to login and create rental requests.

On top of offering so many great equipment rental options to communities, the ToolBank is also committed to sustainability. This includes intentional processes for repurposing rainwater and decreasing the negative effects of runoff through onsite rain gardens. Schools can reach out directly to learn more about field trip opportunities connected to this work!

We often hear incredible ideas for events and programs from schools where supplies can feel like an obstacle. The ToolBank’s low cost rentals are a great option for schools to consider as they plan future events and more Check out their website or call (410-244-5565) or email (rachel.thompson@toolbank.org) to learn more!
