From the desk of Sam Green, Arts Integration Schools Manager:
I was so grateful to be able to attend the National Art Education Association’s National Leadership Conference in Detroit this summer! As I work to grow my understanding of arts advocacy and leadership in Baltimore and beyond, this conference provided the valuable opportunity to connect with arts leaders from across Maryland, the eastern region, and the US more broadly. Keynote speakers included a great mix of artists and advocates, while breakout sessions provided a variety of rich deep dives into how to tell powerful stories through arts, how to support teacher leaders, how to navigate challenges of leadership and more. One of the most valuable connections made during this conference was the ability to collaborate with colleagues in NAEA’s eastern region to talk more deeply about challenges affecting arts in our area. I’m looking forward to continuing to work with MAEA and our other state professional organizations to grow our support for arts educators within Baltimore City.
