Next up in our Arts + Culture Partners Spotlight series, we take a look at Bash the Trash Environmental Arts!  They “build, perform and educate with musical instruments made from reused and repurposed materials.” BTT combines science, music and environmental awareness through performances, programs, and social initiatives, always focusing on how art and science work together.

What can educators expect from Bash the Trash?

A fun and tactile virtual workshop for all students exploring Sound Science! Designed to complement NextGen Science Learning Standards and state/local standards, this engaging and educational 45” workshop with a solo teaching artist takes students on a journey of discovery. Hands-on in-class instrument-building (using the simplest of recyclable materials) is included for maximum engagement, and illuminating video demonstrations reinforce what students are hearing – and feeling – from their instruments. The program culminates in either the “Thing Jam” in which students play their instruments along with BTT performers, or a lively Q&A session. 1-4 classes can connect to a stream. https://youtu.be/6BNsMUQOKjU

How is this program an arts integration lesson?

This program combines music, science, and the environment.

Why should teachers and students be excited about your program?

This is a fun and educational virtual show that we have performed for students all across the world. The best part is collecting your own materials, and then building some instruments during the program, figuring out how they work, and then performing with the Bash the Trash Virtual Band.

Anything else teachers should know about you?

Our programs are great for April – Earth Day month!
