SUMMARY:Arts-based Strategies for Supporting Queer Students
DESCRIPTION:Please join AED and The Walters Museum for an in-person educator professional development: “Arts-based Strategies for Supporting Queer Students” presented by Weiwen Balter of The Walters Art Museum. This PD will build awareness around Queer identities\, explore strategies for cross-community dialogue\, and use a hands-on art-making activity to demonstrate SEL skills for students coping with societal stressors. This session is intended for middle and high school teachers. Participants will walk away with knowledge on how to engage students in discussion across social identities\, and how to use art to assist Queer students in building coping skills. \nLight refreshments will be provided. Registration is capped at 30 educators due to space. This workshop is geared towards middle and high school educators\, though educators of all grade levels are welcome.

SUMMARY:In Person PD: Mural Art Walking Tour with Artist and Educator Liz Miller
DESCRIPTION:For our 2 hour tour\, we will meet at Open Works- located at 1400 Greenmount Ave. After guests have checked in\, we will walk to about 30 points of interest\, seeing quite a lot of street art\, but also learning the history of this often overlooked urban landscape. We will enjoy a walking a loop which will start on the early side with Graffiti alley. On this walk\, we will enjoy the alleyways\, parks\, and murals of the often underrated\, but constantly surprising revitalized neighborhood of Station North Arts & Entertainment District. Locals and travelers alike will enjoy this very photographic look at a gem of a neighborhood. Depending on the size of the group and speed of walking the time for finishing might be slightly later.\n\nThere are periodical trivia questions and easter eggs hidden along the way – be ready to get competitive and rewarded with candy!\n\nOther things to note Free street parking on Oliver Street and Greenmount Street.\n

DESCRIPTION:Join Arts Every Day and Angela Carroll for a virtual teacher professional development workshop! \nAngela N. Carroll\, Lead Curator for the Historical Photography Project of the Black Arts District (“BAD”)\, will lead a workshop to introduce Baltimore City middle school and high school teachers to BAD’s new curriculum: SnapShots: Preserving Cultural Memory through Photos. SnapShots was designed to highlight gaps in West Baltimore’s community history by asking the questions: Who preserves history? Who makes history? What do I want to preserve? How can I preserve history? Where can these histories live? Teachers will learn how to implement the SnapShots curriculum and develop archival photography projects with their students.
