ABOUT BAIP

The Baltimore Arts Integration Project (BAIP) is an AED program established with the support of Dr. Mariale Hardiman, Professor Emeritus, co-founder of Johns Hopkins University’s Neuro-Education Initiative, and creator of the Brain-Targeted Teaching® Model.

BAIP’s goal is to help Baltimore City educators build their arts integration teaching capacity, skills, and confidence. Expected outcomes include improved student engagement, academic achievement, and positive classroom environments.

Dr. Hardiman’s Brain-Targeted TeachingⓇ Model

The Brain-Targeted Teaching Model® presents six stages, or “brain targets” of the teaching and learning process and describes brain research that supports each stage. While each brain target is presented separately, the components are interrelated.

How is BAIP Serving Baltimore City Teachers?

The Online Arts Integration Resource Library offers free access to Baltimore City teachers, featuring “how-to” video trainings on Arts Integration and Brain-Targeted TeachingⓇ, along with curriculum- aligned materials created by local teachers and artists to support arts integration. We collaborate with Teaching & Learning departments to tailor resources to teachers’ needs.

The BAIP Professional Learning Community (PLC) unites educators district-wide, offering opportunities to observe modeled facilitation, practice skills, and receive real-time feedback. This collaborative space encourages sharing successes and challenges in arts integration, allowing teachers to reflect and refine their teaching strategies.

An arts integration professional learning arcs have been created in collaboration with BCPSS academic content area departments. These arcs, led by BAIP cohort members and Baltimore teachers, are designed to teach educators the fundamentals of arts integration, support them in planning lessons using arts integration techniques, and assist teachers in effectively utilizing our online resources.
