We’re excited to share another provider spotlight highlighting a special event from one of our long standing partners, Arts for Learning Maryland (formerly Young Audiences Maryland). This February, Arts for Learning presents Blacktastic: A Children’s Festival of Maryland Black History + Culture!
Join Arts for Learning teaching artists on a fun, interactive, and eye-opening journey as we explore the lives of historic Black Marylanders like Chick Webb, Eubie Blake, Lucille Clifton, Matthew Henson, Mother Mary Lange, and Lillie Carroll Jackson through dance, music, theater and more. Prepare to act, dance, sing, and create with your students of all ages during a virtual celebration while connecting to English, History, Science, and Math–and feel the learning come alive!
This program uses the arts and teaching artists to creatively teach viewers about historic Black Marylanders – enhancing viewer engagement in the process. Registration for Blacktastic includes:
- seven enriching performances and workshops – all in one day and for all grade levels – celebrating and honoring *Maryland* Black history.
- an activity booklet, offering classes engaging hands-on activities that directly relate to and expand on the art-infused content delivered during the program
- extended, on-demand access to the program until June 30, 2023
Performances for the event include performances from historic sites across Maryland, building students’ pride of place in the process and special performances by the Morgan State University Marching Machine and the Milford Mill Academy Band!
