We are excited to highlight Building Better People Productions in this year’s Arts and Cultural Spotlight series! Their Drama For Good program engages students in grade Pre K-12 through interactive workshops that combine theatre with important social messaging. The program allows students to work together to create and perform short pieces centered on subjects that matter to them, making connections to character education and performing arts. Educators can explore Drama For Good and other exciting options from Building Better People Productions in our Art Directory. Today, we’re shining a spotlight on this dynamic workshop, Drama For Good!

What can educators expect from Drama For Good?

This interactive workshop introduces the idea that theatre can entertain AND teach at the same time. By the end of the workshop, students will create and perform short pieces centered around important social messaging of their choosing.

Drama For Good can be done in either one, two, or eight sessions. Sessions are 90 minutes each but can be adapted for shorter times. Curriculum Connections: Character education; Performing Arts; Language Arts; Writing

How is this program an arts integration lesson?

Students use theatre to talk about issues important to them. Examples of how this could be integrated into your curriculum are:

  • Lessons on the importance of taking care of the environment
  • History lessons on the Civil Rights Movement
  • Character development

Why should teachers and students be excited about Drama For Good?

It’s a REALLY fun program that helps students speak about things important to them in really creative ways. They can collaborate with their classmates in the writing, and students can decide then if they would like to be onstage and/or off, so it’s possible for students to take part as they like.
