Next up in our Arts + Culture Partners Spotlight series, we’re featuring Baltimore Clayworks! Baltimore Clayworks is a community-centered ceramics institution in the Mt. Washington neighborhood of Baltimore, Maryland. Our organization was founded by nine artists in 1980 and in 1984 received its nonprofit 501(c)3 status. We are known for our attentiveness to our city, and possess a national and international reputation for artistic excellence, artists’ support, and community involvement.

Why should teachers and students be excited about your program?

Baltimore Clayworks community arts programming seeks to collaborate with you, the teacher, to provide supplemental arts education that integrates seamlessly with your already existing curriculum. This could be within already existing arts programming, but also in other academic areas such as science, history and sociology. We have worked to make anything from medical models to replica artifacts.

These programs bring art experiences of authenticity, excellence, and meaning into the lives of children, adults and seniors, who do not usually have such access. Participants learn to overcome challenges through creativity and encouragement. They are energized by and proud of their accomplishments. For many, these collaborations lead to trying new activities in ceramics, visual arts and beyond.
